Join Dr. Jonathan Whitmore, an Astrophysics PhD who starred in the the 3D IMAX film Hidden Universe while completing an astrophysics postdoc research position, for an AMA! Jonathan is interested in current and historical astrophysical research — especially as it relates to core questions about using science to learn about the universe.
This salon will briefly cover some of Jonathan’s research, but the majority of time will be open to discussing questions and topics of a similar nature with the salon participants.
- What is involved in modern astrophysics research? What kinds of questions are being asked and answered?
- Dr. Whitmore’s research was on the question: “Are the fundamental physical constants actually constant?”
- What was involved to discover Neptune in the 1800s through pen and paper calculations alone and why is that process not repeatable/reliable?
