We will explore some of the following questions and ideas about birth:
- Many people perceive birth as a medical event – is it?
- Hospital vs. home – risks and benefits
- What if something goes wrong during home birth?
- The rise of homebirth during the pandemic
On the topic of breastfeeding we will touch on these topics among others:
- The benefits of breastmilk
- The benefits of the nursing relationship
- Finding breastfeeding support
- The best time to wean
On the topic of doulas:
- What is a doula?
- Who would benefit from a doula?
- Advocacy in birth
When Christy witnessed the home-birth of her nephew in 2010 her whole perspective on life, human beings and birth was changed forever. This event was the catalyst for her later certifying as a DONA doula. While she trained she also discovered the amazing benefits of breastfeeding. As a doula she attended births at home and in hospitals. Although she happily helped others birth wherever they chose, she chose to deliver her own three children at home in what turned out to be some of her most empowering experiences. Although Christy currently does not take births as a doula, she still loves to nerd out about birth and share her experiences with others who are curious. So bring your questions and your stories and join us for a chat about all things birth and breastfeeding!
