Start time where you are: Your time zone couldn't be detected
Join philosopher of emotion Krista Thomason and theologian Tara Isabella Burton as they delve into the world of therapy-speak, toxic positivity, and authentic living!
Is there a pervasive culture of toxic positivity? Does it harm us rather than help us? Drawing inspiration from Krista’s essay on emotional realism, this salon will challenge the pervasive culture of toxic positivity and encourage a deeper understanding of genuine emotional experiences. Bringing the philosophical expertise of Krista and Tara, we will discuss the balance between positivity and realism, as well as explore the importance of acknowledging a full spectrum of our emotions, including those often labeled as negative. Come and join us!
Questions discussed will include:
- What impact does social media’s ‘good vibes only’ culture have on our understanding and expression of genuine emotions?
- How should we redefine mental health and self-care in the context of emotional realism?
- How can we practice more authentic emotional expression in our daily lives?
