How to be a Cartoonist

Hello, I’m Clive Goddard, UK cartoonist and chair of the Professional Cartoonists’ Organisation (PCO). 

I’ve managed to earn a living for the last 25 years in the ever-shrinking world of gag cartoons in newspapers, magazines, and books. The glory days of cartoons in print are sadly behind us now, but it is still possible to make money as a cartoonist if you have a flexible attitude, a degree of drawing skill, a functioning sense of humour, and a skin like a particularly hardy rhinoceros. If cartooning is an area you’d like to work in or just dip an inquisitive toe into, we can discuss all the little details, opportunities, and pitfalls as well as idea generation and the practicalities of drawing. (NB – I don’t work in animation and know very little about that business.)
