I'm
Regan Arntz-Gray, co-host of the
Moral Mayhem podcast and author of
All Cats Are Female, a blog which focuses on gender, culture and meta-politics. Before you head into the Thanksgiving weekend, I invite you to feast upon a discussion between Robin Hanson and I on (so-called) cultural feminization, fertility trends and how they relate to cultural drift, and the role of social activism. We hope the event will stimulate your intellectual appetites and send you off with at least a couple of exciting holiday conversation starters for the fam!
This event builds on Robin Hanson’s work on cultural drift, tying it in to his previous discussions on topics such as fertility trends, cultural feminization, and the role of social activism. The discussion will cover ideas related to several of Robin Hanson’s essays, including “A Fertility Reckoning“, “Escalating Signals Cut Fertility,” and “Women as Worriers Who Exclude“. I’ll get Robin’s take on alternate views regarding the dangers of cultural drift vs. cultural revolution, the structure underlying our cultural value system (or lack thereof), how the case for conservatism is affected by the cultural drift theory, and if there’s time, we may also continue our discussion of potential policy solutions related to fertility decline.
I hope you can join us for a thoughtful and provocative exploration of the mechanisms driving cultural evolution, the interplay of gender and activism, and the implications of these forces for the future!
