Have you ever wondered if you’re the author of your life or just an audience to its events? Two authors present dramatically different takes on this question. I’m Matt, a cinematographer based in LA, and I’m excited to share two of my favorite short stories in a discussion in beautiful Santa Monica, CA. You can find me on Twitter here.

Host Matt Neapolitan will gather attendees of the LA Interintellect community outdoors to discuss excerpts from Jorge Luis Borges’ The Garden of Forking Paths and Ted Chiang’s The Merchant and the Alchemist’s Gate. Both authors address philosophical concepts through the lens of magical realism.

Together we’ll discuss concepts like:

  • The many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics
  • Determinism vs free will
  • The block universe vs the arrow of time pointing in one direction

Come hang out in the real world while we talk about others potentially out there!

This is a members only event. Please sign in to RSVP.
