My name is Brent Lucia and I am a Professional Communications Professor at the University of Connecticut. My recent research focuses on the rhetoric’s of technology, specifically how marketing language for emerging tech seeks to influence its audiences.
Should we be seeking objectivity in journalism? I always believed the answer was an obvious, yes, but scholars/writers/critics abound have recently questioned the idea that this should be journalists’ goal (see sample readings). As our media landscape constantly shifts, can objective journalism truly survive corporate capture and our new digital economy? Was it ever suppose to?
Join me in a discussion about the future of journalism and how we should understand its role in our society. I’ll discuss some of the recent research I’ve delved into pertaining to the “softening” of journalism thanks to social media platforms, but manly I hope for a lively discussion on this controversial topic. See you there!
