The City in Crisis

My focus is at the intersection of the good life, the just society, and techno optimistic capitalism. My name is Max Dostart-Meers and I am a Silicon Valley native currently in exile. Follow me here Twitter.
For the first event in our series, through the juxtaposition of Singapore and my home city of San Francisco, we will ask ourselves what a modern “city” is and why we should care? How is the history of the city relevant today? Do we even care how cities look and feel if they are able to pull people out of poverty? We will discuss what the ultimate gestalt of the city is with a focus on the following three key issues: the city’s ability to create a wealthy society, the city’s ability to stand for the aesthetic progress of society, and the city’s ability to push forward growth and the intellectual frontier of a society.
I will be sending out reading material as pdf’s via email before the Salon. To give all a sense of the discussion I hope we have. Feel free to check out these brief links for background: Guardian , Bloomberg , Palladium , Palladium, Berkley
