The Curation Series – Copying the Curator (Part 2) with Patricia Hurducas
June 29, 2021 at 8:00 pm - 10:30 pm CEST
Start time where you are: Your time zone couldn't be detected
During this Interintellect Curation Series Patricia Hurducas will lead a discussion on the topic of curation in three parts: Understanding the Curator (Part 1), Copying the Curator (Part 2), and Becoming the Curator (Part 3).
In the second part of the series – Copying the Curator – we will look at famous curators, favorite galleries and museums, and analyse the ways of curation from storytelling to the visual display of the objects/ideas. In this session we will focus on aesthetics of perception, ways of transmitting knowledge visually, interdisciplinary thinking, and how can we learn from past exhibitions in order to create our own.
We will discuss and analyse fragments from The Curator’s Handbook written by Adrian George. Purchasing or reading the book in advance is not mandatory, materials with selected quotes from the book will be shared during the salon with the participants. At this salon we will explore as well essays from A Companion to Curation – materials with the selected texts will be provided during the salon. A Companion to Curation primarily addresses the unprecedented interest in contemporary art curating during the last 30 years and how the curatorial discourse has changed during this period.
Questions that we will explore in the second part of the series:
- How can we define “aesthetics of perception”?
- What can we learn from experienced curators?
- What are the exhibitions that we cannot forget?
Pre-salon assignment (not mandatory)
- Visit an online or offline museum or gallery and write down notes about the exhibition/presentation/installation.
Great to read or to watch pre-salon (not mandatory):
