In this salon, debut host Shubh Cheema shares the ups and downs of being in creative industries and invites you to share your own stories of the creative journey.
My name is Shubh Cheema and I am an architect. I run my own studio and have completed projects across India. In-between, I co-founded a startup named ‘fusedcow’ (fused construction on web). We spent years thinking how to bring construction/architecture industry to digital age. We failed gloriously but it helped me create amazing body of work at my design studio. We build amazing office spaces for some of the amazing digital startups in India. I was an insider yet outsider and I totally loved the role. While spending time with founders and VCs, I was able to nurture amazing friendships and ended up designing their homes. Houses/place to live, enjoy is my passion subject and I constantly am thinking about it. These days I am busy creating a new product for ‘sovereign individuals’.
The Creative Journey:
– Why does it matter?
– How can we navigate the ups and down of creative life?
– How we can make it more meaningful?
I have worked in creative industry for past 15 years and have seen numerous ups and downs, high and low. I mentally left the work multiple times, came back and fought hard. This session is for someone who is on the similar journey of self-discovery because being a creator is to re-invent yourself time and again. It’s a metamorphosis of your inner being. Every new challenge brings out a new person you never knew existed.
I imagine it to be open heartfelt discussion where we can exchange what shaped our experience and our creations. It’s a way of looking at ourselves and our creations in the presence of witnesses. My audience is my witness and I am theirs. It’s a slight nod to each other while we walk along our journey.
The world is full of inspiration for young and old creatives but none of the advise helps when we face our demons. I am hoping that the conversation will be like old friends meeting at the bonfire sharing meal and the story of ‘how hard it is’ and ‘how naive they were’ and ‘how blessed we are that we are on this journey of creation and self -discovery.
About the image : I feel strongly about creating spaces for conversation, pleasure and laughter. This is how I imagine part of my house to be
