Takes a Village…

Finding Playgrounds and Playmates

What if I told you, that you couldn’t depend on any organization, corporation, institution, or government? In light of all that’s happening across the world, you’d be inclined to believe me 😆

But you can and should depend on yourself and your people. For your survival, for your sustenance, and for your growth.

Dunbar’s Number

Through most of mankind’s history, we’ve lived in tribes of no more than 150, if Dunbar is to be believed. Whatever the reasons, it seemed like natural homeostasis was being maintained at that scale.

Man’s infinite hubris led us into building what we consider great and grand civilizations. Wise were the kings who ‘allowed’ tribes to function under chieftains, content to preside over them rather than rule with an iron fist.

One Global Village

In case you were wondering where I’m going with this. We still live as tribes regardless of how we’re governed. Our national identities are not the be-all and end-all of how we see ourselves.

What matters more is the people we live with, talk to, eat with, work with and play with. We are born into a family outside of our choice. That happenstance dictates the majority of how we live.

Today, however, thanks to the Internet enabling greater choice of factors and the pandemic forcing possibilities, we’re freer than ever before. To choose where we live, work and play.

Your Playgrounds & Playmates

Communities are all the rage at the moment as people are beginning to realize how important it is to relate with each other. Today we can choose who we can interact with regardless of distance and the culture we were raised in.

It’s time we exercise this power wisely and choose our playgrounds and playmates to play with. We can even create our own community playgrounds, inviting others to come and play with us.

This isn’t a movement that needs a top-down evangelistic movement. On the contrary what we need is a bottom-up, decentralized, player-to-player (P2P) gathering of support.

If it takes a village to raise a child, it also takes a village to resurrect the child in man

  • We need to find or create our playgrounds
  • We need to find or select our playmates
  • We need to play together, caring and challenging each other

If you need help, building a playground online or offline and finding or selecting playmates, don’t hesitate to write in and connect. We’re all in this together. And there’s no single way to build a playground. For eg, Joel and I are playing with the idea of getting VCs to build playgrounds, not just products.

Interintellect

Interintellect (the ii) is a beautiful convergence between a playground and a museum. Space where anyone can gather to enjoy exploring ideas from the history of time to the future beyond.

This playground enables you to engage with and enjoy the connection between past thinkers, present players, and future creators. Participants in the ii playground can sit in the stands and watch or jump into the fray and play. Many even make up their own games and invite others to play.

While it is nurtured and lovingly supported by the passionate and vivacious Anna Gát, the peer to peer nature of adventuring together is what keeps many of us coming back to this playground.

May Interintellect (ii) continue to shine bright and provide a safe harbor for dauntless sailors daring the Sea of Contemplation!
