Jaycel Adkins in his debut invites you to a new Interintellect reading salon, where we will together experience one of Elena Ferrante’s “tactile and sensual, visceral and dizzying”* first novels: “The Days of Abandonment” on May 30th.

On Sunday, May 30th we will gather together to discuss our experiences of reading a novel whose narrator has been described by James Wood of The New Yorker as,
‘a mind in emergency, at the very limits of coherence and decency.’
We have three asks of each participant:
- We ask that you read the novel (188 pages).
- And come with at least one passage that struck you in some way: it can be a sentence, a paragraph, a whole page, that you are willing to read out loud in the salon (if you are shy, the host can read your selection). The reading of these passages will then form the basis of our conversation for the next 3 hours.
- Abide by Interintellect’s Code of Conduct.
