Life After Debt – A Dead Economists Society Series Salon

The Dead Economists Society Salon series continues as Bronwyn Williams and Peter Isztin discuss the many approaches to borrowing and lending money.

As global debt based 281 trillion US dollars this year, we are asking the questions :

• What are the real risks of all this paper borrowing?
• Is the world as we know it based on a giant Ponzi scheme? – And if so, who is the mark?
• Is debt necessary for economic growth?
• Does debt still matter or is it meaningless in the age of MMT?
• Or do ancient state planners, economists and even religions – from Islam to Judaism – have a point…
• Could we redesign our economies without debt?
• And if we could, would that even be desirable?
• And if we did deem it to be desirable, could  “money printing” (in the classical or more modern sense) be a viable alternative?
• Or how about “debt Jubilees” the ancient Hebrew Law suggested?

Come join us at this Dead Economist’s Society Salon as we talk about debt and the micro and macro economy, and test the foundations of the the house of cards that is our current global financial system. To help us along the way, we will explore the long-forgotten (but still revenant) ideas of Ibn Khaldun and the ancient Islamic scholars and the much newer ideas funding and shaping the world of crypto economics today.
