Storytelling and YOU: Lowering the Stakes on Creativity

After you watch a movie or read a book, how do you decide whether it was “good” or not? What sort of language do you use? If you were its creator, what would *you* do differently?

In his debut Interintellect salon, Kevin Zhai explores 3 different approaches to storytelling and how you can apply them in your everyday life.

Storytelling is all around us but telling a great story can sometimes feel out-of-our-reach, something that only “professionals” are capable of achieving. Luckily, that doesn’t have to be the case!

By using strategies from authors, screenwriters, and comic book artists, we’ll explore different ways to both examine existing stories and tell our own.

In this salon, we’ll discuss questions like:

• What are the similarities and differences across stories of different cultures and traditions?
• What’s the difference between a creator and a critic?
• What sort of creative processes do professional storytellers use?
• What are the stories of your life that you wish to tell?

If there’s interest, Kevin will also lead some fun storytelling exercises!
