Our hero, Ivan Denisovich Shukhov, is an innocent prisoner sentenced to 10 years in a Soviet labor camp. Throughout Solzhenitsyn’s novel, we spend the day in his company, along with the rest of the members of the 104th squad, as they endeavor to preserve their dignity and humanity inside a prison system designed to destroy them.
