Join John T. Maier, a philosopher and psychotherapist (PhD/LICSW) based in Boston, and the author of a forthcoming book on the theory of addiction. This is the first episode in a series on The Philosophy of Addiction, introducing philosophical perspectives on addiction and the questions that it raises.
We think of ourselves as free agents, choosing our acts, values, and lives. Does the possibility of addiction threaten this self-conception? Or is addiction itself a manifestation of our freedom?
