ii IRL in Santa Monica Discussing the Isms of Consciousness

Following up on our recent book club and further discussions in the Los Angeles area ii Discord channel, we’ll begin with the inherent difficulty of explaining something whose definition relies on subjective experience—while also enjoying a friendly meetup at a nice eatery.

From Thomas Nagel and David Chalmers to Anil Seth and Sam Harris, we’ll explore the hard problem of consciousness, the philosophical zombie concept, and the mind-body problem. Together, we’ll explore our own views on monism, dualism, panpsychism, and any other -isms one may endorse. Finally we’ll explore the ethical implications of our conception of consciousness as in the rights of animals or even strong AI.
