Join Nat and Martha Sharpe to learn about their experiences with alternative education and filmmaking, as well as their approach to homeschooling and self-directed learning. A members-only fireside chat, moderated by Nicky Buttigieg.
Nat was a film school graduate, and Martha a storytelling enthusiast, and they’ve been a creative team for over a decade. Even as struggling new parents homeschooling their five kids, they continue to create and tell stories. Their alternative education methods prioritize self-directed learning, individuality, and creativity, encouraging curiosity, independence, and responsibility in their kids.
In February 2023, Nat and Martha Sharpe were awarded the O’Shaughnessy Fellowship, through O’Shaughnessey Ventures. They’re using this Fellowship to explore alternative education paths, expand their comfort zones, and—as always—make movies to share what they have learned. Is self-directed learning the answer? What happens when we let kids learn whatever they want? They will film and share the stories of people who embody questions like these, to help us better prepare kids for a future where no career is safe.
