Is Balance Bogus?
October 15, 2021 at 9:00 pm - 12:00 am +03
Start time where you are: Your time zone couldn't be detected
In the salon, Haider Al-Mosawi explores the idea of getting balance in our lives.
The term “work-life balance” invites a broad range of reactions: some see it as the light at the end of the tunnel they aspire to reach, whereas others consider it a hoax that is neither achievable nor desirable.
Where do YOU stand on the spectrum of desire for balance and disgust at the very mention of it?
Is there more nuance to the concept than we take into account? Can “balance” look and feel different to each one of us?
Salon host Haider Al-Mosawi has been promoting “life balance” for many years now. He doesn’t use the express “work-life balance” because work is a part of life and there’s more to life than two areas. In fact, he thinks about life as consisting of 7 life areas: Spiritual, Intellectual, Psychological, Social, Professional, Recreational, and Physical. The life areas aren’t mutually exclusive and they don’t all require the same amount of time and attention.
This salon will explore different ways we can define balance for ourselves, what success means for us in the different areas of our lives, and how we can take practical steps towards living the life we want to live. Life balance isn’t a compromise of our ambitions but encourages a holistic definition of success that’s even more ambitious than a narrowly definition that’s based on financial success or fame.
What areas of your life do you feel like you’re neglecting?
In what ways can you create virtuous cycles between life areas that can help you experience better results in your personal and professional pursuits? (Example: physical health leading to greater mental clarity, which leads to better work performance)
By the end of this salon you will:
- Have greater clarity on how YOU define success
- What obstacles stand in your way from experiencing the life you want
- Have a clearer plan for experiencing more balance, variety, and fulfillment TODAY, without having to wait for the light at the end of the tunnel (hint: there is no tunnel)
