What if we could join Socrates and his friends in their famous discussion about Eros? In this salon we will “re-live” theatrically the discussion of Eros, as well as discuss how these ideas might help us illuminate the discussion of love and eroticism nowadays. Hosted and played by Juan José Díaz, Christophe Porot, and Epagogist.
During this salon, we will make a “play” out of Plato’s Symposium performing the discourses as a theatrical play. Experiencing the dialogue as a living discussion should provide a new way to understand the arguments about Eros’ nature and its impact on our lives.
The structure of the salon will be:
- Introduction: guidelines + context of The Symposium
- Play five discourses (fragments)
- Pausanias → Is eros heavenly or earthly
- Eriximachus → Is eros “medical” / “physical”
- Aristophanes → what about “my other half”
- Agathon → eros and the good and the beautiful
- Diotima + Alcibiades → The Platonic hypothesis
- Discussion
This event will be recorded.
