Science to the People – Hosting Science Salons 101
November 27, 2021 at 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm EST
Start time where you are: Your time zone couldn't be detected
You do amazing research! Why not share it with the public? Learn about hosting Interintellect salons as a graduate student, post-doc, or professor with Interintellect host Donald E Frederick.
Interintellect is a global community where every day, we come together at salons. From across the globe to talk about philosophy and science, art and technology, finance and history, religion and music: all the thoughts and emotions we experience as humans, without judgment or certificates.
It doesn’t matter what stage you are in: a graduate just getting ready to start their dissertation research all the way to emeritus and even those – like myself – who have ventured out into industry. I know I want to learn about what you do and there are plenty more in the ii community who also want to learn!
Why would you want to host an Interintellect salon?
First, they are intellectually fun! Our salons attract participants with a breadth of knowledge. For example, our neuroscience gatherings are attended by famed practitioners and also laypeople reading about the human mind for the first time. People are known to make great friends during Interintellect salons inside and outside their industry.
Second, if you don’t talk about your research and related specialist areas in a fun and accessible way, who will? We’ve all seen what happens when others speak for us.
Third, hopefully, you’ll gain some insights into your own research and thinking from the salon discussion; I know I do!
What is an ii salon, how do you host one, what topics can you do? We’ll cover all of that in this 101 session. We’ll go over our Five Rules of Gathering and other core tenets. We’ll also have time for a discussion about what it means to translate science for public consumption.
