The Art of Taking Chances
October 30, 2021 at 10:00 am - 12:00 pm EDT
Start time where you are: Your time zone couldn't be detected
In this salon, Mashal Waqar hosts a conversation about how and when to take chances in life.
When you look back and think about how you’ve gotten to a certain stage in anything, there’s often dots you can connect and paths you can trace back. It’s easier to do when looking back, but how do you do this in real time, or when looking ahead? What does it mean to take a chance – on yourself, on people, in pivotal moments, or in anything in life?
In this salon, we will discuss the art of taking chances. We will reflect over experiences and discuss chances we’ve taken, chances we’re thinking of, and what it means. What’s the process like, if you take a chance- do you have to be calculated and analytical, if it could be monumental decision? How do you take a chance if it’s risky, and if the stakes are higher? What if taking a chance could change the trajectory of everything?
How do we do this in our personal and professional settings? Do we take chances in our daily interactions, and in our everyday lives? From routine chores and systematism, to unique situations- taking a chance needs extraordinary courage, but other times it can be meaningless and swift. How do we balance this out? What does it mean to live life by taking a chance on things? Is this an alternative meta way of getting the “adrenaline rush”? And, how do you decide which chances are worth the risk? We discuss all this and more in this salon.

- The smart move: we learn more by trusting than by not trusting
- How to choose? When your reasons are worse than useless, sometimes the most rational choice is a random stab in the dark
