In this Dead Economists Society Salon Bronwyn Williams and Peter Isztin discuss Capitalism, Freedom, and Inflation.
“One of the great mistakes is to judge policies and programs by their intentions rather than their results.”
~ Milton Friedman
2022 will see the 60th anniversary of Milton Friedman’s “Capitalism and Freedom”.
In this Dead Economist’s Salon we look at Friedman’s legacy and unpack the state of free market liberalism, and the current status quo of monetary policy and thinking.
We ask :
Did part of the economics profession and pundits go back to a cost-push view of inflation?
Why are we seeing calls for price controls?
What is Scott Sumner’s “market monetarism”?
What is the future of free market thinking?
Was Friedman right in most of his diagnoses and prescriptions?
Join us as we debate the wisdom and possibility of preset and future monetary policy in the days of Doge coin, deficit “myths”, skimpflation, and (apparently) unlimited quantitative easing and helicopter money drops.
