The Great Resignation is upon us:  we no longer want to spend our time doing work that drains us. Our humanity drives us to do work that is meaningful to us, to contribute to the world based on our unique blend of skills, values, and careabouts. For many of us, this means making a change from what we are already doing and venturing out into the unknown.

Join Mary Bajorek an Interintellect Fellow and a work life coach specializing in helping people through work transitions. Her fellowship salons will be a 12-week journey of getting clear about the next steps to rehabilitate our work life, acting on these changes with confidence, surrounded by a community of people going through the same thing.

Searching for work that is an expression of who we are and what we care about can be equally terrifying and exciting. There is no road map for how to make decisions, the future is riddled with uncertainty, and the possibilities are endless. It might feel like a lonely endeavor, but it doesn’t have to be. This salon series is intended to create a sense of community for those of us who are choosing to take the path less traveled.

We don’t have to do it alone.

The first step in the journey of figuring out what work we want to be doing is to have a sense of what we want and who we are. Those are really hard things to figure out when, for most of our lives, we’ve been told what to do or had a path laid out for us. For many of us, this has meant following other people’s idea of what success and happiness looks like up until now.

Taking this journey toward meaningful work means diving into what we deeply care about in our lives and what we actually don’t care about as much as we thought. It means taking a look at what we see as our purpose and what we want the world we live in to look like. And it also means being honest with ourselves about our own strengths and capabilities.

Knowing all of that is essential in making sure we’re walking down our own path. So let’s talk about it!

In this salon, we’ll discuss what it means to know ourselves, our values, and our strengths and how this can help us step into the unknown of searching for work that is an expression of who we truly are. In addition, we’ll do some live sharing of our abstract values, brainstorming together about how to make the idealistic concepts into real actions.

We’d love to see you there, no matter what phase of the journey you’re on.

Activities:

  • Crafting your Values – please make sure to either complete this exercise or arrive with a set of values for us to discuss.

Spend some time reflecting on:

  • What does “success in life” mean to you?
  • What would you want your obituary to be at your funeral?
  • How are the two answers from above different from one another? How are they similar?
  • What are 3 stories of something you’ve done that you’re really proud of?
