Kinderintellect Series: Montessori Parenting

Join Montessori Infant and Toddler Guide, Beatriz Freitas, for this series on
Montessori parenting. Whether you’re expecting a child, already have one
or more, this series is designed for you!

Parenthood is not something you need to go through alone or without guidance. On Kinderintellect, you can join other parents who understand what you’re going through, share experiences and find friendships. All kids are welcome!

In this series, Beatriz, a Montessori Infant and Toddler Guide, will guide the discussion and bring a pedagogical perspective based on respect for and understanding of the child’s whole development, as well as offer practical suggestions for Montessori-aligned parenting.

The series will explore diverse topics such as preparing to welcome a newborn into the family, supporting the development of babies’ gross motor skills, and understanding 2 year olds in all their complexity and wonder. The first session will be dedicated to Montessori philosophy and questions about its approach to parenting and education.

This series meets at 12 pm EST on Saturdays, once per month.

1Saturday, December 9, 2023Montessori Against Doomerism

Dr. Maria Montessori saw children as “both a hope and promise for mankind”. Her work came from a combination of love, scientific curiosity and faith in children’s potential that is still rare in today’s world. Join and learn about Montessori as a trust and hope-based lens through which we can see children and humanity as a whole, and ask all your burning questions about this pedagogy!
2Saturday, January 13, 2024Welcoming a Newborn with Respect

In this session we will discuss the experiences of the infant, from prenatal life to birth and the first few months, so we can understand their perspective as new beings arriving in our world and make the adaptation to outside life more respectful of their unique needs and characteristics.
3Saturday, February 10, 2024Babies and Gross Motor Development

The first years of a baby’s life are incredibly rich in movement, quantity and variety. From the first jerky newborn reflexes to running and jumping around with ease as toddlers, babies navigate rapidly changing bodies, developing nervous systems, and a deep desire to move as the primary way to explore their environment. In this session we will talk about how babies develop gross motor skills, as well as some challenges parents may face and how you can support your child.
4Saturday, March 9, 2024Terrific Twos: Understanding Toddlers

Terms like “terrible twos” and “threenagers” are often used by adults to paint a picture of toddlers as disruptive, manipulative, demanding “little dictators” with little concern for our wellbeing. In this, we miss all the wonderful things that toddlers are: capable, curious explorers figuring out how to be themselves and how to be with others. In this session we’ll look beyond the behaviors of toddlers to see their underlying needs and talk about the challenging, and transformative nature of caring for these little humans.
