In the last episode of our A History of War series, Interintellect founder Anna Gát leads a discussion on the future of war: we’ll look at not just drones and biological weapons, space colonisation and mind control, but also the changing political geography we inhabit, and what new trends in governance might mean for the peace of man.
There are four possible futures for the history of war. We might reach a state of lasting, universal peace meaning the future of man is warless. We might invent weapons of unthinkable sophistication, and in the future wage wars on earth and extraterrestrially in ways hard to currently fathom. There’s a chance war remains war, and our armed conflicts will continue as they are today: rebels and invaders, mountain rocks and IEDs, children maimed and lying in the hospital. The fourth possibility is that there will be no one left on earth to wage wars.
At this salon, the last episode of our seven-part series, but open and accessible to all, we will talk about these possible futures of aggression – their likelihood, their meaning, and ways in which we can impact which of them comes true.
