Joining our community and friends, author Eliot Peper discusses the power of sci-fi and speculative fiction with Mariel Rošić.
Eliot Peper is a novelist based in Oakland, CA. He is the author of Veil, Breach, Borderless, Bandwidth, Cumulus, Neon Fever Dream, Exit Strategy, Power Play, and Version 1.0, and his books have earned praise from the New York Times Book Review, BBC, Popular Science, Businessweek, San Francisco Magazine, Newsweek, io9, Boing Boing, Publisher’s Weekly, Polygon, and Ars Technica.
In this SuperSalon, we’ll be discussing the role of sci-fi and speculative fiction as the literature of theories of technological progress and historical change. We’ll be diving into questions like:
- What can we learn from speculative fiction?
- How have visions of future worlds changed over time?
- What did speculative fiction of the last century say about what was hoped for in this century?
- How do sci-fi and speculative fiction influence technological progress and current entrepreneurial visions?
- What do current trends in sci-fi say about our latest visions for the future?
…and much, much more!
Eliot’s latest book, Reap3r, is set to hit the shelves on May 18th. While we will be reading excerpts from the book and discussing its themes (no spoilers, we promise!), it is not required reading for this salon.
