How to Flourish: Mental Wellness and the Mind
February 15, 2023 at 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm PST
Start time where you are: Your time zone couldn't be detected
In the second salon of a nine-part series on human flourishing, join host Ashley Zhang to explore how we can master our minds in order to live well.
“Madness is not to be despised and not to be feared, but instead you should give it life.”
— Carl Jung
Swiss psychoanalyst Carl Jung famously said about a third of his cases suffered not from a clinically definable neurosis, but from “the general neurosis of our times” stemming from senseless and empty lives.
Though our minds are our most powerful tools, they can also be our greatest adversaries. How can we resist succumbing to the general neurosis of our time and other ailments of the mind? What can we lean on during hard times? Are the crises we face systemic in nature? Can art and literature help us better understand our minds? And how can we shift our focus from merely treating mental illness to envisioning a clear path toward mental wellness that is bespoke to each of us?
Bring any personal experiences you’re open to sharing and any knowledge of (or simply a curiosity for) psychology, philosophy, neuroscience, and everything in between. Together, we’ll craft a vision for mental wellness in today’s world.
