Iridescent Cinema: Metaphor and Encoded Meaning in Film and Television
January 23, 2022 at 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm CET
Start time where you are: Your time zone couldn't be detected
Join artist and film-maker Olga Yakimenko in sharing interpretations of films and TV shows that are greater than the sum of their parts.
The tools involved in the making of film and television allow for sophisticated indirect communication of ideas: complex concepts are transmitted to our senses using cinematography, sound, design, editing, and the human body. What works lingered in your mind long after watching? Did any films suggest solutions to your own problems, or provide otherwise elusive audio-visual phrasing that became part of your own inner vocabulary? What value is there in solving puzzles posed by strangers? What does it look like when messages are too direct, or not direct enough?
Bring your favourite interpretations (plausible and fantastical alike) of films and TV shows. Images are encouraged: a Google slideshow will be used during the event where participants can share scenes and key details.
