Come join David White for the next installment of a salon series dedicated to exploring the themes, ideas, and world-building of science fiction. We will start analyzing the world of Ender’s Game and discuss the costs of war, the importance of empathy, and the logic of survival.
Ender’s Game serves as an important meditation on the nature of war and difficulties of communication. We will investigate the harsh reality of military training, psychological costs of warfare, and the challenge of loving your enemy. Other discussion will include the ability of anonymous online contributors to affect the wider political discourse.
We will also discuss what war games can teach us about life, the importance of lateral thinking, and the legitimacy of propaganda during wartime. Mediation on the nature of competition and how it affects upbringing of children will be central to the discussion.
