Zen and the Art of Motorcycling

Start time where you are: Your time zone couldn't be detected
Let’s take a motorcycle ride towards the ever elusive horizon… together! Join Interintellect host reddy2go to explore the adventure that is motorcycling from every possible angle and perspective.
I’ve always been enamoured by motorcycles as a child, and though it took a backseat through my youth, it’s made a strong comeback in middle age.
We will travel back to the beginning when man rode horses to traverse greater distance with lesser effort and explore the obsession for speed on modern two-wheeled machines, be it dirt or track—not to forget the life of leisurely adventure through lands unexplored on this incredible steel horse we call a motorcycle.
Besides the ethereal excitement of dancing on the edge with danger and the spiritual solace of riding without attachments towards an ever-evolving horizon, there’s also the Earthly satisfaction of building your own steed as a creative pursuit—where art, design, science, math, engineering all come together right in your own backyard.
We live in a world where ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, language, status, etc. are no longer reason to bond. Motorcycling is universal and can transcend the need for any of the above.
So let’s jump on a motorcycle to explore our selves, our world, and the connection we share with each other to make friends who might just be strangers we haven’t ridden with yet. Maybe this salon could be the place to make plans for interconnected, international road trips?
Not a typo—I’m not particularly inclined towards reading on this subject, though many might want to (re)read Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. If you don’t want to dive into the entire book, you might find Anna Gat’s invitation for interpretations offers a wide variety of insights.
If you’d like to read my motorcycle musings, here’s a Twitter thread 🧵!
I’m hoping y’all will share your favorite reads when we meet in the salon! However I’m less curious about what you’ve read and more curious about:
- Your best memories on a motorcycle.
- What inspired you to straddle the steel horse?
- What terrain you like to ride on?
- Personal transformations experienced on the road.
- The perils & pleasures of being seduced by speed and losing control.
We’re gathering here to play with our unique perspectives, to share past stories, present adventures, and future plans. Join us on this virtual road-trip of a lifetime!
