In this SuperSalon, writer Akash Kapur, author of Better to Have Gone: Love, Death, and the Quest for Utopia in Auroville, will join writers and Interintellect hosts Tanya Raj and Visakan Veerasamy to explore the pull of a perfect utopia: the pleasures and the losses, and the finding of eventual transcendence and acceptance, even in the face of death.
“Fate happens to us, but we choose our pathways between its broad avenues ~ Akash Kapur”
- What is the human cost of our age-old quest for a more perfect world?
- Can beliefs both liberate and constrain, enable and ruin, sometimes simultaneously?
- What is the relationship and contradictions between idealism and real life? What are the costs of the very idea of utopia and the search for perfection?
- What are the underexplored yet universal ideas of utopia?
To answer these questions, we will take a trip through time to look at the past and present tales of a paradise lost, and of the dangers of utopian naivety. What happens when, inevitably, dreams collide with harsh reality in a beautifully sculpted tale of personal tragedy and a love story?
We hope you can join us!
