How to Use a Life

Join Pascal Kolbe (Meaning Researcher) and Mark Ovland (former monk and Buddhist teacher) for an interactive 2-hour salon in which we’ll explore what it might look like to “live life well.”

If you’re anything like us, it’ll be important to you that your life here on Earth feels fulfilling and meaningful. But that doesn’t always happen by itself. We all know how easily the months and years can slip by without us noticing. We can live long stretches of our lives as though on autopilot, working on projects that only half-interest us whilst doing the same things as we did the day before, just because… well… that’s the easiest thing to do. To move into a meaningful life requires time and attention. 

Half the challenge, we believe, is finding a suitable compass, personal to each of us, that can help to guide us through life’s onslaught of options and opinions, pushes and pulls. That’s half the challenge. The rest is learning how to read that compass accurately, and to trust in it – and, ultimately, to muster enough courage to actually use it.

This salon will provide a space for us to pause and reflect, both individually and as a group, on what feels most important to us in life. The session stands alone and should help to give you a clearer sense of your compass, though further guided inquiry via a 6-week course might be possible in the autumn, should there be interest.
