Love: A Show and Tell
March 3, 2022 at 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm PST

Who says show and tell is just for kids? In Alma Cook’s monthly miniseries, we’ll discuss simple concepts in a collaborative way, using attendees’ own selections from arts and culture as our springboard.
Alma Cook is a singer-songwriter, business owner, and Braver Angels cultural ambassador. With many hats come many interests, including faith, economics, art, and communal living—but above all, she loves to bring people together for food and fellowship.
This month’s topic: love! What do you think about the way your culture views and portrays love? Why are some types of love prized over others? And why do you think some people treat the words “I love you” with a particular reverence or flippancy?
The formula is simple: bring a song, book, poem, quote, movie clip, painting, or even an everyday object that represents the topic at hand. You’re welcome to bring/perform an original work or share something made by someone else. Alma will loosely make space for everyone to talk about why they selected their piece—but beyond that, there’s no agenda, and there’s certainly no one threatening to vote you off the island for doing it wrong.
“Til my fears have gone away, I’ll still love.
Let it go and come what may; I’ll still love.”
—Gretchen Parlato
See you there! If you can’t make this show and tell, join us next time on the first Thursday of the month! The next two events will be on April 7th (confidence) and on May 5th (jealousy).
How to Prepare
Think about what love means to you. With no shortage of songs, quotes, and works of art about love, find a piece that captures what you believe love is (or distinctly isn’t), and be ready to say a few words about it. Or you can opt-out and just listen!
