The Art of Gathering: Discussing the book, sharing stories and planning your next shindig

“How we gather is how we live.” Join to discuss Priya Parker’s “The Art of Gathering”, share stories of meaningful gatherings (both hosted and attended) and become inspired for your own future get-togethers. Hosted by Mary Bajorek, a work life coach with a passion for designing meaningful experiences.

Most gatherings (like birthdays, weddings, salons, meetings) have pre-set expectations. Birthdays mean cake and cards. Weddings a ceremony and dinner. A lot of emphasis is put on the what rather than the how of being together with others. We tend to stick to the form rather than taking the time to intentionally create meaningful encounters that focus on the most important part of a gathering: the human dynamics.

Gatherings can be much more than just the things we do. They can be opportunities for connection, addressing fears, tightening bonds, and working through conflict. They can be uniquely crafted to reflect the person who is hosting or being honored. They can be fun, quirky and transformative.

Parker’s “The Art of Gathering” is a collection of principles on how to meaningfully gather and transform the off-the-rack formats of gatherings to experiences of wonder and connection. The principles cover everything from the need to have a disputable and clear purpose and not being a chill host to creating pop up rules and accepting that there is an end to the time we spend together. During this salon we will discuss the principles of the book, how we have experienced them come alive in our own gatherings and where we can use them when planning future ones.
