Wild Problems (and how to address them) – A SuperSalon with Russ Roberts

Join economist and author, Russ Roberts at this SuperSalon as he discusses the ideas inside his new book, Wild Problems, and gives suggestions on how we can better deal with wild and wicked problems, as individuals, organisations, and societies at large. Led by Bronwyn Williams.
“Wild problems resist measurement. What works for you might not work for me, and what worked for me yesterday might not work for me tomorrow. Wild problems are untamed, undomesticated, spontaneous, organic, complex. They’re a whole different beast
compared to the tame problems where the standard techniques of rationality move us steadily forward.”
~ Russ Roberts
We have a modern tendency to believe that data and measurement will solve everything and put us on the path to a better life. But there is no algorithm or simple set of rules for “solving” many big and complex decisions. Rather, we are forced to accept ambiguity and chaos and to understand that sometimes there is no one-size-fits all solution or “best” choice to the decisions we are facing – especially those involving other people.
When it comes to these sorts of “wild problems” we need to move beyond a narrow utilitarian calculations and rather embrace a personal, personalised approach.
An excerpt from Wild Problems will be sent out with your ticket, and three hard copies will be given out via lottery to early ticket buyers.
